Batteries & Chargers
Power is at the center of evolving material handling solutions. As equipment evolves, the energy sources that fuel them are adapting to complex demands. Analyzing your energy sources and making changes to enhance your fleet can require a complex series of decisions.
Tips for Battery Care
Proper care for your batteries is essential. If done correctly the charge, the performance, and the life of your battery will be optimized reducing downtime and reducing maintenance costs. There are some simple tips and tricks to keep your battery operating and its peak performance.
Only add water as needed – do not overfill
Charge battery on properly matched charger
Allow battery to cool down before placing it back into service
Keep battery top clean, dry, and free of foreign objects
Keep battery and truck cover open during charging
Report any problems or damage before minor problems become major ones

Battery Types
Hull offers a Power Study to collect data on various analytics within your current power solution. We utilize our technicians’ years of experience to provide answers on multiple questions.

Flooded (Wet Cell)
The battery costs less compared to other types, so it makes a great option for businesses operating multiple forklifts at once and/or need multiple batteries per forklift to continue operation – this is especially important due to their long charging times. This battery will also require more regular maintenance to maintain top performance.

Gel Cell
By adding silica to the battery, it creates a gel like substance that don’t require lots of maintenance and won’t emit many fumes. The Gel Cell batteries are better at handling extreme vibrations and impacts which makes this battery a great option for rough outdoor applications.

Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM)
The battery operates when sulfuric acid is absorbed by a very fine fiberglass mat. The main advantage of an AGM battery is a faster charge time than the Flooded battery. But, the life expectancy is much lower and each charge harms the performance of the battery.

Lithium-Ion
Typically last longer than lead-acid batteries, while also charging faster and enduring more charge-discharge cycles. They are preferred for their low maintenance, higher energy density, and safety compared to a lead-acid battery. Not to forget that they are more environmentally friendly than a lead-acid due to fewer toxic materials and ability to be recycled.
